Endocrinology deals with disorders of the endocrine system and its specific secretions, or hormones. Although every organ system secretes and responds to hormones, the clinical specialty of endocrinology focuses primarily on the organs whose primary function is hormone secretion, including the pituitary, thyroid, adrenals, ovaries, testes, and pancreas. Diseases treated by an endocrinologist include diabetes, hypoglycemia, hyperthyroidism, metabolic syndrome, adrenal insufficiency, osteoporosis, Cushing's Disease, and many others.
