Physical Medicine
Physical medicine and rehabilitation, also known as physiatry, deals with the functional restoration of a person affected by physical disability. Emphasis is placed on managing disorders through the use of medications and physical modalities, including the managing of therapeautic interventions such as physical, occupational and speech therapies. Acupuncture is also offered in our department for painful conditions and bahavioral conditions such as tobacco addiction. Electrodiagnostic services are offered for diagnosis of peripheral nerve conditions such as entrapment syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome and pinched nerves in neck or low back (radiculopathy). Common conditions that are treated include muscular skeletal conditions such as low back pain, myofacial pain syndrome, peripheral nerve disorders and stroke. Treatment is also provided to patients with work injuries.
